Sweet Empanadas

Dessert, folded: the afternoon-treat tradition of the Río de la Plata, baked warm in Tampa.

Why Argentina eats dessert at 5 PM

Argentina keeps a fourth meal the rest of the world forgot: the merienda, the late-afternoon pause for something warm and something sweet. Dulce de leche was allegedly born of a happy kitchen accident in 1829 — milk and sugar left too long on the fire — and no country has ever recovered.

Our dulce de leche empanada folds that history around vanilla pound cake soaked in condensed milk under meringue — a tres leches you can hold in one hand. The guava & cheese is the Caribbean's oldest sweet-salty argument, settled in pastry. The Nutella & brownie is for the table's youngest voter, and it wins every election.

All three bake to order, so they arrive the only way a sweet empanada should: warm.

Hecho a mano, hecho aquí.

Every plate and pastry on this page is made by hand in our Soho kitchen at 122 S Howard Ave and finished when you order it — never from a freezer truck, never from a factory.
